About Us

our mission

We empower students to meet their full potential by recognizing their strengths and developing their foundations for learning.

The foundational skills that must be in place for efficient processing may include memory, attention, language, reasoning, and integration. When these are intact and working together, students are ready to branch out and learn basic skills, develop their unique gifts and areas of interest, and find success academically, socially, and emotionally.

We can assist in developing skills in any of these areas, either academic or foundational. Banyan Tree uses the latest neuroscience research and programs to help students overcome the underlying processing issues interfering with their learning capabilities.

who we teach

Our students come to us from every corner of San Diego County and with a wide variety of learning differences. Some of the most common issues our students face include:

There are times even the best schools find it challenging to meet every student's unique learning needs. Banyan Tree can help pinpoint areas of strength and weakness in your child's academic development and use that information to develop an action plan.

Highly trained professionals in our learning centers provide educational therapy that is supplementary to your child's regular school program. We use research-based, multisensory methodologies that address the root of learning issues.

Building the foundations for learning will help your student achieve long-range success in academics and in the workplace.

Sometimes, a change in school placement is the best option to meet a student's specific learning needs. If you're looking for a specialized, comprehensive academic program for your struggling elementary or middle-school student, consider one of our school campuses:

Compass Academy - North

Compass Academy - South

In addition to standards-referenced curricular programs, we offer speech therapy, occupational therapy, and counseling services.

how we teach

If you suspect your child has dyslexia or other unidentified learning challenge, we can unlock that puzzle with an assessment and design a plan for success.  We also address the needs of students who have IEPs and may have a Specific Learning Disability, ADHD, OHI, Nonverbal LD, or mild ASD, including those with a 504 Plan. Our Learning Centers and Compass Academy schools specialize in implementing successful strategies for students with unique learning needs.

Assessment & Evaluation

We administer assessments to find the root causes for learning challenges. Then we design a program that addresses those specific needs. We consider all previous assessments, IEPs, observations, and intake history forms. We require our own assessment  to identify previously mastered  skills, baselines for instruction, and information to set specific goals for intervention.

Assessment types and fees may vary on previous information and needs.

Educational Therapy

Educational Therapy is different than tutoring. ET addresses the needs of the whole child, including processing skills. BTES specializes in educational therapy for a wide range of students. Educational therapy targets areas of challenge for children and adults. Our researched and evidence-based methods serve students with dyslexia/dyscalculia, ADHD, executive functioning, processing speed, memory, sensory difficulties, auditory processing, anxiety, gross/fine motor skills and spoken/written language.

Specialized Learning

Research has shown that explicit, systematic teaching with frequency and intensity re-wires the brain for learning. Just as an athlete cannot improve by working out twice a week, making neuro-cognitive changes for learning requires frequent or daily intervention.  Our school programs and learning centers provide consistent instruction that builds automaticity and fluency with newly learned skills. Students must reach mastery in order to advance to a higher level.

Processing Skills

Our research-based methods strengthen and even correct the root of  learning problems, building a stronger foundation for learning. Students who struggle with learning may have unevenly developed or weak underlying processing skills. These include attention, memory, auditory and visual processing, logic and reasoning, language, phonemic awareness, and sensory processing.  When these underlying skills are strengthened, learning academic skills becomes more efficient and fluent.

what we teach

Academics

If you suspect your child has dyslexia or other unidentified learning challenge, we can unlock that puzzle with an assessment and design a plan for success.  We also address the needs of students who have IEPs and may have a Specific Learning Disability, ADHD, OHI, Nonverbal LD, or mild ASD, including those with a 504 Plan. Our Learning Centers and Compass Academy schools specialize in implementing successful strategies for students with unique learning needs.

Vocational & Life Skills

Social skills, executive functioning, and resilience are crucial to success in life, which is why we integrate these skills -- and so many more -- into our academic programs.

Social-Emotional Learning

Combine academics and life skills with social-emotional learning, and you have a program designed to meet the needs of the whole child. Emotional well-being and self-regulation are essential to social mobility and independence. We teach students how to identify their emotions and express themselves in appropriate and healthy ways.

Social-emotional learning doesn't stop with the individual. By learning how to identify and articulate their feelings, students help create a more cohesive, harmonious school climate.
